Copper oxide manufacturers introduced the temperature conditions for the decomposition of copper oxide at about 1000 degrees, so the use of alcohol lamps in the experiment is not expected, we have to use alcohol burners. In the decomposition reaction of copper oxide, oxygen should be continuously introduced. In order to prevent the occurrence of explosion, the experiment should be carried out under the condition of continuous nitrogen gas flow. Under nitrogen atmosphere, the nitrogen gas is relatively rare, so that it will not explode. But the reaction will still proceed. It can also be carried out in a rare gas atmosphere as long as the chemical nature of the gas is not active.
Copper oxide is slightly bisexual and slightly hygroscopic. The relative molecular mass is 79.545, the density is 6.3-6.9 g/cm3, and the melting point is 1326 °C. Do not dissolve in water and ethanol, soluble in acid, ammonium chloride and potassium cyanide solution, slowly dissolve in ammonia solution, can react with strong base. Copper oxide is mainly used for making rayon, ceramics, glaze and enamel, batteries, petroleum desulfurizers, insecticides, hydrogen, catalysts, green glass, etc.
Copper oxide is stored in a cool, ventilated warehouse. Keep away from fire and heat. It should be stored separately from reducing agents, alkali metals and food chemicals, and should not be mixed. The storage area should be provided with suitable materials to contain spills. The copper oxide is vacuum-packed with a composite woven bag lined with a layer of aluminum foil, each bag has a net content of 25KG, and the sealing performance is good.
